Nigerian singer, Asa, is determined to remain true to her African roots even if she maybe a fully fledge pop star with a growing global appeal internationally, CNN reports.

The 29 year old artist didn't forget where she was coming from and that initially brought her found fame all over the world.

Africa continent give thanks to her soulful musical melodies, which have since proved popular with audiences in Europe and beyond.
She has since opened live shows for the musical superstars such as Beyonce, Snoop Dogg, Akon and John Legend.
But despite sampling the sweet taste of global recognition, it is Nigeria and Africa that remain the singer’s main sources of inspiration.
“I’m proud to be Nigerian and I also hope other Nigerians feel proud that they have a great country, she adds”
“People have preconceptions of Nigeria … so for other Nigerians we need to know that we cannot hide, we need to defend, and how do we defend, we need to be good at whatever we do,” she adds.

Asa is one of the hotest and latest among the crowd in a long line of African artists to make it big on the world stage.

Traditional likes such as Ladysmith, Black Mambazo and Salif Keita have blazed a trail in years gone by, while up-and-coming hip hop artists such as K’naan and 2Face Idibia have taken on the mantle in recent times.

Dr. Murray 4yrs in jail for Michael Jackson's death

Michael Jackson’s Doctor Sentenced To Prison

Dr Conrad Murray was sentenced to four (4) years imprisonment  in  Los Angeles County jail  for involuntary manslaughter of Michael Jackson

He was so speechless in the court when the sentence was thrown to him

Today, Judge Michael Pastor sentenced Dr. Conrad Murray, to 4 YEARS IN PRISON.  But Murray will not spend a single day in prison because of a new California law.  He’ll serve his time in L.A. County Jail.  And in jail, at most Murray will only serve half the sentence.

GOSSIPTIMELINK learnt that the judge was angry, talking repeatedly about Dr. Murray’s documentary in which he laid the blame at Michael Jackson’s doorstep.  The documentary clearly weighed in the judge’s decision to give Murray the max.
As for restitution, Judge Pastor ordered Dr. Murray to pay “appropriate restitution” to the Estate and to MJ’s kids at a later date … but the judge seemed dubious about the $100 million request by the prosecution.

Judge Pastor ruled Murray must pay an $800 fine, a $30 court security fee, and a $40 criminal conviction assessment.
Judge Pastor said, “There are those who feel Dr. Murray is a saint.  There are those who feel he’s the devil.  He is neither.  He’s a human being.”

Judge Pastor says it’s irrelevant to him that Michael might have met this fate with some other doctor.  The fact is, Pastor said, Michael Jackson died because of the actions of … Dr. Murray.”

The judge said he looked at Murray’s whole life, and he was impressed.  But he added Dr. Murray’s recklessness with Jackson overshadowed the doc’s good deeds, calling the treatment, “a cycle of horrible medicine.”

The Judge noted, “Dr. Murray engaged in a recurring, continuous pattern of deceit and lies.”

The Judge was incredulous, saying far from being remorseful, “There’s umbrage and outrage on the part of Dr. Murray against the decedent.”  The judge was making note of Murray’s critical comments about MJ in his recently-aired documentary.

In the end, the judge said, “Dr. Murray abandoned his patient,” calling his conduct “egregious” and “a disgrace to the medical profession.”

Same sex marriage to attract 14 years jail term

They have now pass a Law that Same sex marriage  in Nigeria is prohibited and anybody caught risks 14 years jail term.
People who attend or witness the marriage risk 10 years jail term.

Senator Ita Enang,  in his contribution, said the bill will be forwarded to the House of Representatives for concurrent passage, adding the passage of the bill into law by the National Assembly was part of the effort to ensure that Nigerians were in good health condition.

He also stressed that passing the bill into law will be a signal to other countries.
A female senator, Nkechi Nwogu,   informed  that 14 years jail term for same sex marriage was unanimous decision by the all senators because the country culture, tradition and the religions in the country is against it.

She said:  “Same sex marriage has negative effect on the health of anyone that involved in it. It was unanimous decision by the Senate to pass the bill into law. It is very unfortunate that the western countries want to force their culture on us.”

Movie actor Clems Ohameze speaks of his attack

I escaped their attacks severally but my cousin was killed and my driver escaped with a bullet – Nollywood actor Clems Ohameze tells of his attack

Clems Ohameze
Clems Ohameze
CLEMS OHAMEZE SPEAKS TO GOSSIPTIMELINK

Can we know you sir?
My name is Clems Ohameze, from Imo state but born and brought up in Port Harcourt.

For how long have you been into acting?
Since 1995.

How many movies you featured in so far?
(Laughs) As about my last counting, it was around 386 movies.

You have been away for two and a half years now, what happened?
Well, well, well, in the year 2007…it was actually 2006…I felt that I have fulfilled my desire in the movie industry. After all the movies and the awards, I just felt I needed to move on and do something else, so I set out for politics.
In 2006, I registered with the presently ruling party PDP and contested for house of reps in Imo state. I won the primaries and immediately after that, I was faced with all sorts of threats.
Some people felt I should not be a star in a movie industry and a star in the politics as well. So they said, “no, Clems, you are not supposed to be here, go and face your movie and leave us here.”
I felt that was what led them to do what they did. My car was attacked. I escaped their attacks severally. My cousin was killed, my driver escaped with a bullet. It was that serious. They thought I was inside the car and they wanted to eliminate me.
I had to leave Owerri and escaped through Enugu to Abuja, and travelled out of the country to UK and from there to America.
In fact, I was just running around for my safety. What helped me mostly is that I’m a citizen so I do not have limits to what I can do out there. But thanks to God, I’m back home now for good. I came back to Nigeria last year, because I believe everything is calm now.

Since your return last year, how many movies have you done?
I have done at least 26 movies.

Now that you’re fully back, what are we expecting from you?
A lot. Yes…we are still doing what we do because we have passion for it. I used to tell my friends that I can’t leave film making, because I want to make fame. This business is the only one that opens doors. As long as you are in this business, any door you knock on, it will open without much stress.
I have a lot I’m doing. I have business interests in U.S, U.K and Ivory Coast.

Now that you are back, what are the changes you noticed in Nollywood?
There’s a revolution in Nollywood. Not the kind of revolution with violence, we don’t need violence.
I always tell people that the industry will always evolve for good, which is why I called it evolution. Now, with the aspect of coming back to the cinema, we are heading to the point where the professionals will take over the business and things will be done right.
Right now, the people in control of the industry are not really the top professionals, but I give them kudos, because without them we won’t have come this far. But all we ask them for is let there be some finance, let there be some structure.
One of the biggest finance today in US is Hollywood. The government here in Nigeria got involved in Nollywood, because they found out that Nollywood is mega money business or structure. That is where they got it wrong. You can’t just jump in from nowhere and take over what people used their life and money to build.
No! We don’t work that way. But anyway the change will come and is coming gradually. And it’s most unfortunate that the people we helped are not the people that will take us to promise land. There are people who have not come out to talk about the faring of the industry, those are the people in due time will take up Nollywood.

Your general challenges?
The job itself is challenging. I can’t really say…but we do experience challenges from time to time, especially when you have to go out to locations. But the most important thing I can call challenge is the fact that you have lost your private life. You are now a public figure. You are limited in things you can do.

What inspires you?
The fact that I want to affect people’s lives through movies inspires me a lot.

Apart from acting, have you produced any movie of your own?
Yes, have produced four movies. Two were shot in Ivory Coast and there are French movies, while two others are in English and were shot here in Nigeria.

Turn off?
(Laughs) Women turn me off; I know you will soon ask that.

Turn on?
Good food turns me on.

About your last job and this one you are on?
I can’t talk about it because I’ll be selling out the movie to readers. I can only talk about the ones in the market because this is just like piracy to me. I don’t have to break the law.

How do you cope with fans?
Without them there is no me, because they are the mirror that I see myself in. They’re the most important thing in my life and my career, because without them, you are like every other person walking on the street. They are the mirror in which when you are getting older or younger they will tell you.

Anything else you want to tell us?
Nothing more to say, but the name of your magazine scares me. I hope you don’t gossip me (Laughs).

Gossiptimelink wishes you the best.
Thank you Gossiptimelink.

Wife of Ojukwu Speaks about Husband's Death

Bianca speaks from UK...I thought my husband would make it

bianca ojukwu
Ojukwu helped in shaping modern Nigeria –Tafida
Ikemba Nnewi, Dim Chukwuemeka Odumegwu-Ojukwu’s widow wife (Bianca), yesterday told a delegation of the Nigerian High Commission in Britain, led by the High Commissioner, Dr. Dalhatu Tafida, that her husband’s death came as a surprise especially after he had been discharged.

Bianca, who was receiving visitors at her sister’s residence in central London, revealed that her late husband, who had been in a London hospital since December last year, was already very aware and alert and was planning to return to Nigeria for full recovery.

Bianca, who singled out President Goodluck Jonathan, his wife, Patience, Governor Peter Obi of Anambra State, Dr. Tafida, embassy staff and Nigerians home and abroad for standing by the family in their hour of travail, said Ojukwu had surprised doctors and the family severally even when he was given up for death and recovered.

“I will like to begin by thanking His Excellency, Alhaji Dalhatu Tafida, for leading such a strong delegation to commiserate with me today, so short notice because I am sure some of you had other engagements today, I’m sure many of you had to cancel your enagements to come and console me today. Alhaji Tafida called as soon as he heard of his demise, I’m sure he was probably woken up, my husband was still lying on the bed and offered words of support and encouragement and I am very grateful. At times like that, when all hope seems lost, it is amazing how few words are able to achieve.

“My husband as you all know, came here to the UK on the 23rd of December 2010 after suffering a very serious stroke and I will also like to use this opportunity to thank not just Alhaji Tafida who came to the hospital to visit him, to pray for him, also others who prayed for him also. “We all must die, but I must say his demise at this time came as a surprise, because he had just been discharged from the hospital, he was doing so well and I have never seen him look so well, he was interractive, he was very alert, very aware and we will sing him songs, cracked jokes.

And I remember I was saying to him, it is getting very cold in this country and we must go home, are we going to go home and he would nod very emphatically, but he never did make it home. Very surprisingly, his situation which we thought had improved remarkably, suddenly took a turn for the worse. Like other times, I always say I have seen him through very bad times when the doctors will tell us he wouldn’t make it to morning, but he would always struggle and in the morning he would still be there. But this time, he didn’t struggle he went peacefully.

“Nobody asked God what his intentions are, but we would have preferred he stayed on, I cannot ask God why at this time. But to God be the glory, He is the giver of life and he decides when to take it. I always say there is nothing more heartwarming in a situation like this when you have all taken out time to come here and share this difficult period with me. I thank you all for taking out this time to come and commiserate with me. I will also like to use this opportunity to thank our President, Dr. Goodluck Jonathan and his wife, Dame Patience Jonathan, who have been very supportive through all this, the Governor of Anambra State who arrived Nigeria yesterday (Saturday) from France, where they had gone on a trade summit with Mr. President and had to get on the next plane coming back to the UK. His wife who was with me throughout this ordeal in the hospital. And so many Nigerians for their prayers.

“You can have the best doctors in the world but I think it is prayers that have kept him this long and I continue to thank you all for your support, Nigerians in the UK and others. And I asked that if you are ever faced with a situation like this that God sent you consolers as you have come to console me today. Thank you”. Earlier, Dr. Tafida said his loss was a great one, not only to the Igbos, but to Nigerians as a whole. “When I heard the news, the terrible news through a telephone call, it was a great loss not only to you or even to the Igbo race, but also to the whole of Nigeria.

“Chief Ojukwu has helped to shape modern Nigeria because it was through him that we were able to have state that we now call states that are cells of development in Nigeria. His loss therefore, should not be considered as a loss to just one section of the country, it is a loss to the whole country. This is why when we learnt about it, it was unanimously decided that we should be here today to commiserate with you. Our intention will be to send a formal letter to the funeral event, we will also send a letter to the Governor of Anambra State and also to the President.

“We do not want to bother you because we know it is a period of grief, your husband has passed through a long period of agony so to say. We do hope and pray that the call he has answered will be to internal glory”, he said.
